Translation studies; Anglo-Irish and French literatures of the 19th and 20th centuries, including Proust, Beckett and contemporary European and American fiction.

Selected Publications

Translation and Literary Criticism (1997); Katharine Tynan (1974); translations include, Volupte. The Sensual Man by Sainte-Beuve (1995), Adrienne Mesurat by Julian Green (1991, a revision of an earlier translation), Lui. A View of Him by Louise Colet (1987), Axel by Villiers de l'Isle-Adam(1970, 1980 reissue), Eve of the Future Eden by Villiers de l'Isle-Adam (1982).

Also, articles on W.B. and Jack B. Yeats, Beckett, Julian Green and others. Founding Editor of the ATA Series and Translation Perspectives.
